“My Character Journey: Stickers for Success”

The Challenge: A Critical Need for Corrective Behaviour and Empathy The current scenario within our community reveals a concerning trend: many children are exhibiting a lack of empathy and a pressing need for corrective behavioural guidance. Our Solution: Implementing the Policy of Positive Behaviour Reinforcement to actively overcome these profound strains on our children and to cultivate a nurturing, empathetic, and resilient generation, St. Anthony’s High School — under the dedicated guidance and leadership of Ms. Sheetal Tembulkar — is proud to implement the Policy of Positive Behaviour Reinforcement. This policy is a crucial step in fostering a supportive environment where every child feels valued, learns empathy, makes positive choices, and develops into a well-adjusted, confident individual. Introduction: At St. Anthony’s High School, Badlapur, we believe in nurturing not just academic excellence, but also the holistic development of our learners. This policy outlines our commitment to fostering positive behaviour, strong character, and a supportive learning environment. The “My Character Journey: Stickers for Success” program is designed to recognise and reward children for demonstrating good behaviour, effort, and positive contributions, encouraging them to become responsible, empathetic, and engaged individuals. Objectives: This policy aims to achieve the following:
  1. Promote Positive Behaviour: To encourage consistent display of desirable behaviours such as discipline, respect, responsibility, and empathy among all learners.
  2. Foster Character Development: To instil core values and ideal character traits, including integrity, leadership, helpfulness, and resilience.
  3. Enhance Learner Engagement: To motivate active participation in academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities, fostering a love for learning and self-improvement.
  4. Boost Self-Esteem and Confidence: To provide regular recognition and appreciation, build learners’ self-worth and encourage them to strive for personal bests.
  5. Create a Positive School Culture: To cultivate a supportive and respectful environment where good conduct is celebrated and serves as a model for peers.
  6. Encourage Consistency and Perseverance: To motivate sustained effort in maintaining good habits, attendance, and participation over time.
 Procedure for Implementation:
1. Sticker Earning and Point System: Learners will earn physical stickers for demonstrating specific positive behaviours and achievements. Each sticker will correspond to a set point value. There are 4 kinds of stickers;

  • The child must refrain from collecting the Uh-Oh Card.
Parents and teachers can suggest further new Positive Behaviour Reinforcement stickers or even recommend the deduction of points on stickers or closure of any sticker. This revision will be done at the beginning of every new academic year.
2. Sticker Collection and Filing:
  • Each learner will affix the sticker to a 100-page book made of rough pages, a scrapbook, or a newly purchased book. This book will be dedicated to the “My Character Journey” sticker book.
  • Teachers will award stickers immediately or at the start/end of the class/day, explaining why the sticker was earned, linking it to the specific behaviour.
  • Learners are responsible for securely filing their stickers in their book. Teachers will not take responsibility for the loss of stickers or the book.
3. Point Tally and Rewards:
  • At the end of each academic term (e.g., after the Diwali vacation and the end of Term 2 exams), teachers will assist learners in calculating their total points.
  • A “Reward Catalogue” will be revised one month before point calculation, listing various gifts/rewards redeemable for different point thresholds. This catalogue will include a range of age-appropriate items such as stationery, books, small toys, extra playtime, certificates of achievement, or special privileges.
  • The reward catalogue is subject to change as per the availability of products and gifts received in charity for bringing cheer to students.
  • Learners can choose to redeem their points for a reward at the end of each term, or save them up for a higher-value reward at the end of the academic year.
4. Teacher and Staff Role:
  • All teachers and staff will be trained on the policy, ensuring consistency in sticker award criteria and reinforcement.
  • A teacher representative shall be appointed in each section, who will have access to get the stickers from the School Supervisor and be accountable for the use of stickers.
    • The teacher representative shall train the other staff and make a monthly report to be submitted directly to the Principal and the CEO regarding the use of the stickers, changes in student behaviour, achieved results, rewards expected and any discussion to uplift the program.
    • Training and feedback sessions must be conducted by the teacher representative once a month for better execution of the program.
    • The teacher representative will act as positive role models, demonstrating the behaviours they wish to instil.
    • The decision of the teacher representative shall be final and binding.
    • Every academic year, a new teacher representative shall be appointed.
5. Communication with Parents:
  • Parents will be informed about the “My Character Journey” policy at the beginning of the academic year through circulars, parent-teacher meetings, and school newsletters.
  • This policy will also be published on the school website, www.stanthonysedu.org.in.
  • Parents will be encouraged to discuss their child’s sticker collection with them, reinforcing positive behaviours at home.
  • The sticker book can also serve as a communication tool between school and home regarding a child’s character development.
Benefits of this Policy for Parents:
This policy offers significant advantages that directly impact your child’s growth and well-being.
  • Holistic Development: This program goes beyond academics. It actively teaches and celebrates crucial life skills and character traits like responsibility, leadership, kindness, and perseverance, which are vital for your child’s success in all aspects of life.
  • Clear Expectations: The sticker system makes it very clear to your child what behaviours are valued and expected at school. This consistency helps them understand boundaries and make positive choices.
  • Tangible Recognition: Children thrive on positive reinforcement. The physical stickers and the anticipation of rewards provide immediate and tangible recognition for their efforts, boosting their self-esteem and motivating them to continue good habits.
  • Positive School Environment: By encouraging good behaviour, the policy contributes to a safer, more respectful, and more enjoyable learning atmosphere for all students, including your child.
  • Parent-School Partnership: The sticker book serves as a simple and effective communication tool between you and the school. You can easily see your child’s progress, discuss their achievements, and reinforce these positive behaviours at home.
  • Long-Term Impact: The consistent focus on character development through this program helps to ingrain positive habits that will benefit your child not just now, but throughout their lives, shaping them into well-rounded and responsible individuals.
  • Motivation Beyond Academics: It provides an additional layer of motivation for children who may not always excel academically, recognising their efforts in other valuable areas.
Parents Contribution:
  • Talk to the children and encourage them to portray good behaviour, choice of good or bad and be patient with the child as each child learns at a different speed.
  • Write a letter or email to the school when the child showcases good behaviour at home, and celebrate it as an achievement with words of appreciation.
  • Donate rewards to uplift good behaviour in learners, by donating stationery items, books, personalised materials, parent volunteering activities, or a play-date with parents.
